Vietnam War Memorial, at the Westmoreland County Courthouse in Montross, Virginia, was my first important commission as a sculptor. The unveiling ceremony was very emotional, but since the Vietnam War was still very unpopular (in 1980) Governor Robb at that time asked his Lieutenant Governor to perform the ceremony.
Montross is a small town from which many young men had lost their lives in Vietnam. The sculpture was paid with the proceeds of several barbeques and yard sales organized by the citizens of Montross.
I felt very honored to make the sculpture as a non-US citizen.
The sculpture was cast in bronze by myself in my own foundry at the time.
